Kia Motors announces June global sales

  • June sales totaled 207,406 units, down 12.1 percent y/y
  • Korea sales increased 41.5 percent y/y to 60,005 units
  • Sales outside of Korea declined 23.8 percent y/y to 147,401 units
  • Kia continues to offer measures to support customers and buyers

Kia Motors Corporation recorded total sales of 207,406 units in June 2020, a 12.1 percent decrease compared to the same period last year.

The Sportage SUV topped Kia’s global sales rankings with 30,792 units sold, followed by the Seltos SUV with 25,550 units and the all-new Sorento SUV with 22,426 units.

Korea Sales

Sales in Korea rose by 41.5 percent year over year to 60,005 units. New models such as the all-new Sorento SUV released in March and the K5 sedan (sold as Optima in some markets) released last December contributed to the higher sales results.

Sales outside of Korea

Sales in overseas markets decreased by 23.8 percent from a year earlier to 147,401 units, affected by the sluggish economy due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

In response to the tough business environment caused by the pandemic, Kia is implementing various countermeasures such as online presentations to potential customers for new vehicle sales and the extension of warranty periods.

Furthermore, the company is hopeful of renewed sales momentum in the second half of the year thanks to a strong line-up of new models. These include the introduction of the new fourth-generation Kia Carnival MPV (sold as Sedona in some markets).
